Fact finding trip to the isles of Orkney

Beef

The beef is delicious, the only problem being is that it puts you off eating any other beef, so be warned! even the mince is the best I ’ve tasted. The steers are kept until they are 26-29 months old. They are killed out on mainland Orkneyand then the meat is hung for 14 days. The carcass is first cut in half length ways prior to being hung. It is split intoquarters- fore and hind.Remember grass fed beef is high in those omega 3 fatty acids which are good for us.

Organic status

 

Currently while the cattle and sheep are kept and raised to organic standards as certified by the Soil Association, the killing out and processing have been done non-organically.
